My allergies were driving me crazy. The constant sneezing was driving my husband crazy. A friend suggested getting a wall mount air conditioner, he said that would solve my allergy problems.
He was right!
So what’s the big deal about a wall mount air conditioner? To start, they are smaller than the average air conditioning unit, they are quieter, they help to keep pollen and other pollutants out of the home environment, and better yet, they use less energy than their conventional counterparts.
We bought three units. The part installed in the house is about the size of a long and narrow pillow, and hangs on the wall (hence the name “wall mount air conditioner”, sometimes also called “ductless air conditioner” or “split units”) at a little higher than picture level. We live in a long ranch-style home so we placed the two larger units at either end of the home, and the third smaller unit we placed in the inside bedroom.
The installation was a snap, since these air conditioners don’t use ducts. You just mount them on the wall, connect them to the outdoor units with some flexible hoses and wires. If you’re at all handy, you can do this. (And even if you hire someone to install your air conditioning units, it’s a quick job.)
There are two outdoor units that are placed outside on either end of the house, where they work to extract heat from the air as well as cool from the air, depending on the season. You may have heard of the technology called a “heat pump,” that’s what this is.
What a difference these air conditioners made! I noticed an improvement in my allergies within just a couple of days, (making my husband very happy.) I also noticed that there was less dust in my home, an added benefit since I hate to dust. The wall units made very little operating noise, definitely much quieter than a window unit.
What is extra nice about these wall mount air conditioners is that they work in the winter as a heat source. Who wouldn’t like a little extra heat these days, from an energy-efficient source? No need to add ducts or blowers, the units work to provide a little extra warmth without destroying your utility budget. No wood to chop, no fuel oil, no pellets, this is worry-free and easy!
Check out, too, that the government is offering a $1500 tax credit if you buy and install a new wall mount air conditioner system. Of course, you’ll want to check if the model you’re considering is one of the qualifying units. Your salesperson will be able to help you there.
So am I happy that we spent the money on our new wall mount air conditioners? You bet I am. I can breathe easily, I rarely sneeze, our fuel bills are in better shape since we are using less propane and wood pellets, and we are going “green” to help the environment. You can even get a tax credit. So what’s not to like?
